Tesla Energy has made a strategic move in the Australian market by launching a partnership with Bunnings Warehouse, a prominent home goods and appliance retail chain.

This collaboration marks the company’s first third-party retail distribution of its energy products in Australia, signaling a new approach to making Tesla’s renewable energy solutions more accessible to consumers.

Product Availability and Pricing

The partnership introduces several key Tesla Energy products to Bunnings Warehouse stores, including:

  1. Powerwall 3: Tesla’s latest home battery storage system
  2. Wall Connector: Home charging equipment
  3. Mobile Connector: Portable charging solution

Pricing Details:

  • Mobile Connector: $550 AUD (~$358 USD)
  • Wall Connector: $800 AUD (~$521 USD)
  • Powerwall 3 Pricing:
    • Single Powerwall: $11,900 AUD
    • Two Powerwalls: $23,800 AUD
    • Three Powerwalls: $35,700 AUD
    • Gateway: $1,700 AUD

Installation Locations

The initial rollout of installation services is focused on two Australian states

Victoria Bunnings Warehouse Installation Sites:

  • Box Hill Warehouse
  • Epping Warehouse
  • Hoppers Crossing Warehouse

New South Wales Bunnings Warehouse Installation Site:

  • Castle Hill Warehouse

The company plans to expand installation capabilities to additional states in the near future, with the Northern Territory currently excluded from the expansion plan.

Powerwall 3: Next-Generation Home Battery Technology

Launched in Western Australia in September, the Powerwall 3 represents technological advancement over its predecessor. Key improvements include:

  • Integrated solar inverter
  • Enhanced peak power handling capability of approximately 30kW
  • Ability to simultaneously manage high-energy appliances like dryers and air conditioners

Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Program

Tesla has also introduced its Virtual Power Plant program in select Australian regions. This allows Powerwall owners to:

  • Contribute to a distributed battery network
  • Sell excess stored electricity back to the grid
  • Help stabilize electricity demand during peak periods

This approach mirrors similar VPP pilot programs Tesla has launched in other international markets, including the United States, Japan, and several other countries.
