Tesla Sentry Mode May Soon Honk at Vandals

Vehicle vandalism is getting worse, and Teslas are a big target. Many owners catch vandals on Sentry Mode, but most criminals get away. The alarm doesn’t always go off, and video alone isn’t enough to stop them.

Recently, things have escalated. A Tesla showroom in France was set on fire. A Supercharger site in the U.S. was destroyed. Tesla owners are being targeted too, even if they have nothing to do with the company’s controversies.

Sentry Mode records crimes, but it doesn’t stop them in real time. It helps with insurance and police reports, but it doesn’t scare vandals away. A honk or alarm could make them think twice before causing damage.

Honking at Vandalism

That may be changing. Someone on X asked Tesla to find a way to stop people from keying cars. Elon Musk replied, suggesting that Teslas could honk when they detect this kind of vandalism.

“Car could honk at people if you want”

The idea came after a video showed a Tesla getting keyed. This happens a lot, and it’s becoming more common. Teslas already recognize lane markings and objects. They could likely detect someone scraping the paint. A honk could make the vandal stop.

It’s a small update, but it could make a big difference. Instead of just recording crimes, Sentry Mode would help prevent them.

Recent Sentry Mode Updates

Sentry Mode keeps improving. In the Christmas update, Tesla added a way to watch Sentry Mode videos on your phone. Right now, this only works on iPhones, but it should come to Android later.

A future update may also improve how much energy Sentry Mode uses. This would help owners keep it running longer without draining the battery too fast.

If Tesla moves forward with the honking idea, it could be the most useful update yet.
