DHL Validates Tesla Semi’s Performance in Extensive Trial

DHL has recently shared promising results from its Tesla Semi trial, validating the electric truck’s capabilities after a comprehensive two-week testing period. The logistics giant, which initially ordered 10 Tesla Semis in 2017, finally got hands-on experience with the vehicle in summer 2023.

During the trial based out of Livermore, California, DHL Supply Chain USA:

The efficiency results actually exceeded both DHL’s expectations and Tesla’s own ratings, with Tesla now claiming even better efficiency at 1.6 kWh per mile. This level of efficiency is particularly significant for operational costs, as 1.7 kWh of electricity can cost as little as $0.15, potentially leading to substantial cost savings in trucking operations.

Following the successful trial, DHL has indicated it’s “ready to roll” with Tesla Semi integration in its US operations. While Tesla plans to expand Semi availability to Europe, where DHL has larger operations, the immediate focus is on ramping up production at their Nevada factory for next year.
