Tesla Leads North American Content in 2025 Vehicle Models

Posted on

Recent NHTSA filings have revealed that Tesla vehicles contain the highest percentage of North American-sourced parts among automotive manufacturers for their 2025 model lineup. The data, which tracks components produced in the United States and Canada, positions Tesla alongside Honda at the top of the rankings.

Leading the pack are the Tesla Model 3 Long Range variants (both AWD and RWD), which share first place with the Honda Ridgeline AWD TrailSport at 75% North American content. Tesla’s strong showing continues with the Model 3 Performance and all Model Y variants at 70%, matching several Honda vehicles. The premium Model S and Model X complete Tesla’s lineup with impressive figures of 65% and 60% respectively.

Tesla North American Content Percentage (2025 Models):

VehiclePct in US/Canada
Model 3 LR AWD/RWD75%
Model 3 Performance70%
Model Y (All Variants)70%
Cybertruck65%
Model S65%
Model X60%

In the electric truck segment, while the Cybertruck doesn’t claim the top spot—which goes to the Honda Ridgeline at 75%—it secures a strong second place with 65% North American content. This significantly outperforms other electric trucks in the market, with the GMC Sierra EV at 36% and the Ford F-150 Lightning at just 29%.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the data challenges traditional assumptions about American-made vehicles. The Detroit Big Three manufacturers, historically associated with American manufacturing, actually show some of the lowest percentages of North American content. Some models from these manufacturers contain as little as 1% North American parts.

Looking ahead, Tesla’s commitment to domestic production is set to strengthen further with new initiatives, including their upcoming Lithium Refinery Plant in Robstown, Texas. This facility, along with other domestic component manufacturing plans, suggests Tesla’s North American content percentages could increase even further in the future.

This clear focus on domestic manufacturing reinforces Tesla’s position not only as an American-based automaker but as one of the most committed to North American production in the entire automotive industry.
