Tesla Brings Insurance Underwriting In-House
Tesla has introduced a new insurance policy in California, now underwritten by Tesla Insurance Company instead of State National Insurance Company.
This change comes with a 3% discount on one term’s premiums for those who switch to the new policy.
Deadline to Switch
To get the discount, customers must switch by four days before March 14.
Safety Score Still Not Used in California
California remains the only state where Tesla Insurance doesn’t use real-time Safety Scores for pricing due to local laws.
In the other 11 states where Tesla Insurance is available, this feature is active.
Discounts for Supervised FSD Users in Arizona and Texas

Tesla Expanding Insurance Beyond the U.S.
Tesla registered an insurance brokerage in China last August, signaling plans to expand its coverage there.
The company also hired former Geico executive Allen Laben to help reduce insurance costs in the U.S. and Canada.
“Here’s my goal in this role: Make Tesla vehicles EASY and ECONOMICAL to insure,”
Laben said.
“By partnering with insurance companies, teams across Tesla, and collision shops in the USA and Canada, we’ll lower the total cost of Tesla ownership and accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”
