Tesla has rolled out a significant software update (version 2024.38.4) that introduces Powertrain Endurance, a groundbreaking feature for Track Mode V3 designed to optimize electric vehicle performance during track driving.

Since its initial launch in 2018, Track Mode has continually evolved to showcase Tesla’s track capabilities.

However, battery electric vehicles have historically struggled with thermal management during spirited driving, often experiencing performance throttling under high-temperature conditions.

The new Powertrain Endurance feature addresses this challenge by offering three distinct performance settings:

  1. Standard:
  • Prioritizes peak output
  • Fastest initial lap times
  • More quickly reaches thermal limits
  1. Increased:
  • Balances peak output across multiple laps
  • Ideal for intermediate driving lengths
  • More consistent performance
  1. Maximum:
  • Lowers peak output for extended track sessions
  • Slower initial lap times
  • Most consistent performance over longer distances

Tesla’s official description explains the feature’s core functionality:

“Maximize performance for your driving distal by limiting power as speed increases to improve thermal management.”

This innovation could be particularly significant for track enthusiasts, potentially solving previous limitations. For instance, earlier Tesla models like the Model 3 Performance could typically complete only a single lap at challenging tracks like the Nurburgring before power reduction.

Powertrain Endurance might now enable multiple consecutive laps, marking a substantial improvement in electric vehicle track performance.

The feature is expected to be well-received by Tesla owners and track driving enthusiasts seeking more refined and sustained performance from their electric vehicles.
