Tesla has Updated its Owners’ Manuals

Cabin Radar Monitoring Changes

Tesla has shifted from using individual seat sensors to the cabin radar system (located above the rearview mirror) for detecting occupancy.

This change was implemented as part of a recall response requiring enhanced passenger and driver monitoring.

Importantly, blocking or obstructing the radar will now disengage both Autopilot and Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD).

Camp Mode Enhancements

The manual now explicitly states that USB and 12V ports remain functional when Camp Mode is engaged, reflecting the actual functionality that was already in place.

Navigation Updates

Tesla has removed language limiting construction and accident alerts to the U.S., suggesting potential international expansion of these features.

Implementation will likely depend on establishing partnerships with data providers in other markets.

Maintenance Updates

• Tesla removed the requirement for desiccant bag replacement in the heat pump’s A/C system every 4 years.
• A new maintenance requirement involves periodic cleaning of the windshield’s interior in the front camera housing. Owners can schedule service or follow DIY instructions in the manual under “Quad Camera Cover – Upper.”

Parental Controls Standardization

The default speed limit setting is now “Relative” with a +5 mph offset.

When “Require Safety Features” is selected, the following features are automatically enabled and cannot be modified:

• Automatic Blind Spot Camera
• Blind Spot Collision Warning Chime
• Automatic 911 Call
• Allow Mobile Access
• Park Assist Chimes
• Lane Departure Avoidance (set to Assist)
• Speed Limit Warning (set to Chime)
• Speed Limit (set to Relative)
• Offset (+5 mph/8 km/h)
• Forward Collision Warning (set to Early)

Changes to Vehicle Systems

• Regenerative Braking: Tesla has removed the text stating that low regenerative braking options won’t be available after January 2024, indicating a possible future reintroduction of multiple regen options.
• Steering Wheel Weight: The “Medium” setting has been renamed to “Standard.”
• Autopark Updates: The system has been removed from the strike-out rules, meaning that strikes no longer affect access to the automated parking feature.

Enhanced Valet Mode Privacy

Valet Mode now includes stronger privacy protections:

• Blocks text message display even with an active Bluetooth connection
• Removes access to home and work addresses
• Restricts access to driver profiles
• Limits access to various privacy-sensitive features

These changes were implemented with the recent holiday update, though not all were included in the official release notes.

The modifications apply across Tesla’s vehicle lineup, although the documentation references are from the Model Y owner’s manual.
