Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy recently shared an extraordinary company practice that goes beyond typical engineering approaches.

Responding to an industry observation about the Model Y’s safety record, Moravy emphasized the company’s unwavering dedication to protecting vehicle occupants.

“Safety is and always will be our top priority,”

he stated on social media platform X.

“First comes our Autopilot safety features that are always active in every Tesla whether you are in FSD or not – the goal is to prevent crashes, but if the worst occurs – you will be protected by the best passive safety cars on the planet.”

What sets Tesla’s approach apart is Moravy’s unique method of keeping the team motivated.

He personally prints out and displays customer testimonials around the office and laboratories, ensuring that every team member remembers the human impact of their work.

One such testimonial that resonated with many highlighted a dramatic incident involving a Model Y. An X user shared a story of a father and teenage daughter who walked away unharmed after being hit head-on by a drunk driver. The tow truck driver reportedly noted that Tesla crashes typically result in minimal injuries.

Moravy’s response captured the emotional core of their mission:

“Wow, so glad everyone is safe. Honestly warms my heart, truly. When I get customer testimonials like this, I print them out and post them around the office and labs, so we remember our motivation. Save lives.”

The company’s safety commitment is backed by remarkable real-world examples. In January 2023, a particularly striking incident occurred at Devil’s Slide, California, where a Model Y was allegedly driven off a 250-foot cliff. Emergency responders were astounded when all occupants survived.

Battalion Chief Brian Pottenger, who responded to the incident, described it as “nothing short of a miracle.” His statement underscores the extraordinary protective capabilities of Tesla’s vehicle design.
