Tesla Enhances iOS App with Convenient Control Center Features

Posted on

This week, Tesla rolled out a significant update to its iOS mobile app, introducing a feature that streamlines access to essential car controls for iPhone users.

Version 4.38.0 of the Tesla app, released on Friday, now allows owners to add specific car commands to their iPhone’s control center. This new functionality enables quick access to frequently used controls such as locking the car, adjusting climate settings, opening the charging port, honking the horn, and even activating the playful ‘fart’ mode. Additional commands like flashing headlights and operating the frunk or trunk are also available, though these features require iOS 18.

The update extends beyond convenience features, introducing an Energy Power Meter for Powerwall and Powershare users. This tool is designed to help owners monitor and manage their system’s power limits when operating off-grid. Alex Guichet, a Tesla mobile app engineer, highlighted on social media that this metering feature is particularly beneficial for users with smaller systems, helping them avoid overloads. The feature provides clear visibility into remaining backup hours and offers best practices for outage situations.

Tesla’s commitment to regular mobile app updates has been a cornerstone of their user experience strategy. Recent updates have included:

  • Home energy demos added to the iOS app earlier this year
  • Enhanced destination filtering options introduced over the summer
  • A hint at the upcoming release of Autopark, alongside a new release notes button in August

The company’s focus on software development and mobile integration has not gone unnoticed. In May, J.D. Power ranked Tesla’s mobile app as the best among all auto manufacturers, citing its user-friendliness and overall experience for vehicle owners.

Tesla’s dedication to its mobile platform dates back to the early days of the Model S and X, reflecting the company’s software-first approach that sets it apart in the automotive industry.

This latest update underscores Tesla’s ongoing efforts to enhance the connection between owners and their vehicles through smart, convenient, and feature-rich mobile solutions.
