Tesla’s latest software update adds a feature called Light Sync. It lets your cabin lighting respond to music. Your accent lights now flash and change color with every beat or rhythm you play.
To turn on Light Sync, open the App Launcher. Tap Toybox, then pick Light Sync. Select “Sync Accent Lights w/ Music”. When this is active, the interior lights will react to any music from the car’s audio, streaming, radio, or devices.
Available Models
Light Sync works only on Teslas that have ambient accent lighting from the factory. You need one of these:
- Model S (the updated version)
- Model X (the updated version)
- Model 3 Highland (2024 or newer)
- Model Y Juniper (2025 refresh)
- Cybertruck
Teslas without ambient lighting can’t use this.

Light Sync responds to sound in real time. The system changes the brightness and colors based on the music’s beat and what is around the car. It sometimes matches the light’s color to the album artwork.
Tesla also added something called “Rave Cave” mode. This is only for when you are parked. It makes the cabin as bright as possible and creates a party feeling.
Software Update Rollout
Tesla announced this update on July 29, 2025. People started getting it just after that, and it reached more cars through the weeks. By late July, about 12% of Teslas had received version 2025.26.4, which is needed for Light Sync.
Tesla first used ambient lighting on the Model 3 Highland. The lighting wraps around the cabin with strips in the doors and dashboard. Older premium models, like the 2022 Model X Plaid, had some wiring ready for the lights, but the feature was made standard in the newer cars.
Before Light Sync, Tesla used accent lights for small effects, such as Rainbow Road or Santa Mode during holidays. This is the first time they can react to music.
How To Set Up
Update your car to software 2025.26 or newer. Then activate Light Sync from the Toybox menu. You can turn it off any time. The lights will follow any music playing inside the car.
This brings a feature that’s been popular in aftermarket kits straight into the car, controlled by Tesla’s own software. It gives owners a new way to enjoy their time inside the vehicle, no changes to how the car drives.
