Tesla is getting ready to release a new software update in China. This update will bring advanced driver-assist features similar to those in the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system available in the U.S.
The Update
According to Bloomberg’s source, the update will let Tesla drivers in China use advanced driver-assist features on city streets.
This includes handling exits, intersections, traffic signals, turns, lane changes, and speed adjustments. These features are very close to what FSD (Supervised) offers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
Who Gets It
The update will go to Tesla customers in China who bought the FSD package.
Bloomberg’s source didn’t say if the update will be called “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” in China. It will first roll out to select models and then expand gradually.
Musk’s Push for China
Elon Musk has been trying to get approval for FSD in China for years. During Tesla’s Q4 2024 earnings call, Musk talked about the challenges.
He said,
“We do have some challenges because they currently don’t allow us to transfer training video outside of China. And then the US government won’t let us do training in China. So, we’re in a bit of a bind there. It’s like a quandary.”
The update could mark a big step for Tesla in China, where competition in the electric vehicle market is intense.
