Tesla has begun testing software update 2025.8 with employees before making it available to the public. This early access phase helps refine the update before a wider rollout. While the full details aren’t known yet, here’s what could be included.
Adaptive Headlight Support
Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed that the refreshed Model Y will get adaptive headlights and matrix headlight functionality. It will be the first Tesla in North America to support matrix headlights.
This feature recently received approval in the U.S. and will soon be available on all Tesla vehicles with matrix headlights. That includes the Cybertruck, Model S, Model X, and Model 3.
Grok Support
xAI just launched Grok 3, its latest smart assistant. Elon Musk has said Tesla vehicles will eventually get this assistant.
Grok 3 adds new voice support, which could bring better voice command handling to Tesla cars. This update may include it, but a Spring launch seems more likely.
Cybertruck Updates
Tesla’s Cybertruck program manager, Siddhant Awasthi, confirmed that new suspension controls are coming. Right now, height adjustments can only be made in the vehicle.
Tesla might add the ability to adjust height from the app and introduce more ride height options.
A cold-weather fix for the Cybertruck was expected in 2025.2 but didn’t make it. Some Cybertrucks struggle to reach max charging speed in cold weather when using an L2 charger, and others have reduced regen in low temperatures. This update might fix those issues.
In-Cabin Radar Support
Tesla has started activating in-cabin radar in older Model Y vehicles that have it. Other equipped models will also get support soon.
This radar replaces front seat occupancy sensors and improves detection of passengers. Rear-seat detection is expected later in 2025.
New Nav Routing Options
Tesla added new navigation options in China earlier this year. These include Least Congestion, Prefer Highways, and Lowest Tolls. A new Service Area modal also shows available amenities at highway stops.
It’s unclear when these features will reach North America and Europe, but many are hoping for them soon. The long-awaited Avoid Highways option is still missing.
Trailer Profiles for Model S, X, Y
Trailer Profiles launched with the Cybertruck. This feature saves trailer details like type and braking settings to improve energy estimates and track mileage.
Right now, it’s exclusive to the Cybertruck. This update could bring it to other tow-capable Teslas.
Custom Vehicle Wraps for Models S, 3, X, Y
The 2024 Holiday Update let Cybertruck owners customize their vehicle’s look in the visualization screen. Tesla later confirmed this feature will expand to the rest of the lineup.
This update might include it, allowing owners to match visualizations to real-life wraps, decals, and license plates.
Sentry Mode Efficiency Update
Tesla made Sentry Mode 40% more efficient on the Cybertruck last year by improving how the system uses vehicle computing.
Other models should get this efficiency boost soon.
Release Date
Tesla usually takes one to two weeks to roll out an update after employees get it. Sometimes it’s as fast as five days, sometimes it takes the full two weeks.
The full release notes should be out in the next week or two. More details will follow after that.
