Tesla plans to accelerate production of its autonomous Cybercab, targeting 2 million units annually by 2026, according to CEO Elon Musk’s recent earnings call announcement. The ambitious production goal may eventually reach 4 million units across multiple manufacturing facilities.

The Cybercab, revealed to be Tesla’s anticipated $25,000 vehicle, represents the company’s strategic move into the autonomous rideshare market. Tesla emphasized its commitment to an autonomous future, highlighting its current production rate of 35,000 autonomous-capable vehicles weekly—a stark contrast to competitor Waymo’s fleet of fewer than 1,000 vehicles.

Investment firm Ark Invest supports Tesla’s strategy, suggesting the company’s manufacturing capabilities will give it a significant advantage in the autonomous rideshare sector. Tesla also noted that the majority of its existing 7 million vehicles on the road are capable of autonomous operation, potentially positioning the company for rapid expansion in the robotaxi market.

The Cybercab announcement underscores Tesla’s vision of transforming personal transportation through autonomous technology, with volume production scheduled to begin in 2026.
