Tesla Continues to Delay Roadster

“I’d like to thank our long-suffering deposit holders,” Musk said during the call. “The Roadster is not just the cherry on the cake but also the icing on the cake. We’re close to finalizing the design.”

The vehicle, promised to achieve 0-60 MPH in 1.9 seconds and potentially feature hovering capabilities, has faced numerous delays since its announcement. While Musk stated in May 2023 that production would begin by the end of 2024, that timeline has been abandoned. More recently, in February 2024, he suggested the vehicle would be unveiled by year-end with shipments targeting 2025.

“We are finalizing the design of [the Tesla Roadster] now. It will be something spectacular,” Musk added, making a cryptic reference to flying capabilities: “My friend Peter Thiel was lamenting we don’t have flying cars. Well…more to come.”

Despite holding deposits from customers for years, Tesla continues to prioritize other projects, particularly its next-generation mass-market platform. While this focus on mainstream vehicles may benefit Tesla’s deliveries and market position, the company’s repeated delays and vague updates on the Roadster project have frustrated deposit holders and enthusiasts alike.
