Tesla’s New Model Y: Quieter, Better, and Raising Questions

Tesla is about to start deliveries of the updated Model Y soon. The car has a few changes, mainly on the outside. It gets new light bars and improvements in how it’s built.

Inside, Tesla worked on making the cabin quieter, upgrading the sound system, and making small interior tweaks.

A Quieter Ride

Tesla added acoustic-lined glass and better door and window seals. The result? A cabin that’s much quieter than before.

Some drivers say it’s “eerily quiet,” so much so that they can hear the motor whine when accelerating.

Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, spoke about this issue.

Too Quiet?

Some drivers worry that the cabin is now so quiet they might not hear emergency vehicles.

However, Tesla’s “Joe Mode” could help with this issue. It lowers the volume of non-critical alerts by 50% to avoid disturbing passengers. It’s mostly helpful for parents with children to avoid waking sleeping children in the rear seat.

Tesla might improve it by using its cameras to spot emergency vehicles and alert drivers.

There’s no final plan yet. One idea is to let drivers use white noise to cover up certain sounds.

The quieter cabin is a big upgrade, but Tesla is figuring out how to help drivers who find it too quiet.
