Tesla Stops Orders for Older Model Y in U.S.

Tesla has ended custom orders for the older Model Y in the U.S. Now, only the new “Juniper” model and its Launch Series trim are available for custom orders.

The updated Model Y came out in the U.S. in early February, and deliveries are underway. Other trims of this new version exist in some countries, but not yet in the U.S. If you want the old Model Y, you can only get it from inventory stock. Tesla won’t make new ones anymore.

Why the Model Y Matters

The older Model Y’s phase-out closes a big chapter for Tesla. The Model 3 got people’s attention, but the Model Y pushed Tesla further. It shook up the car industry and made traditional automakers focus on EVs.

In 2023 and 2024, the Model Y was the top-selling car worldwide. Tesla first showed it off on March 15, 2019. That means the original version ran for almost five years before getting replaced.

What’s New in the Juniper Model

The latest Model Y has better ride comfort, suspension, and less cabin noise. It also looks different on the outside. If Tesla can ramp up production and keep people buying, the Model Y might stay on top in 2025. Demand isn’t a problem. It’s still one of Tesla’s most popular cars.
