Tesla Celebrates Model Y Milestone in Norway

Tesla has announced a significant achievement for its popular Model Y crossover in Norway. The electric vehicle manufacturer revealed that over 60,000 Model Y units are now on Norwegian roads, solidifying its position as the country’s top-selling electric vehicle.

The announcement came via Tesla’s official Europe & Middle East account on X (formerly Twitter). In a playful jab at EV skeptics, the company stated:

This milestone underscores Norway’s position as a leader in EV adoption. The country has long been supportive of electric vehicles, with Norwegians among the first European customers to receive the Tesla Model S in 2013. By April 2014, the Model S had set a new record for monthly sales of a single model in Norway, regardless of powertrain.

Tesla’s more affordable offerings, the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, have also seen remarkable success in the Norwegian market. In 2023, the Model Y claimed the title of Norway’s best-selling vehicle, with 23,088 units sold. Tesla’s overall market share in Norway last year was impressive, accounting for approximately 20% of all vehicle sales.

Despite increasing competition from both established automakers and new entrants, Tesla continues to dominate the Norwegian auto market. According to sales data from elbilstatistikk.no, Tesla has sold 61,540 Model Y units and 45,612 Model 3 sedans in Norway to date. The company’s total sales in the country have reached 143,388 vehicles.

This sustained success in Norway, known for its cold climate, serves as a strong counterargument to claims that electric vehicles are ill-suited for colder regions. As Tesla’s presence in Norway continues to grow, it not only demonstrates the viability of EVs in various climates but also highlights the country’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
