Demand for Model Y creates 1000 new factory jobs at Tesla Germany

Tesla plans to bring 1,000 new workers to its German factory by the end of June. A company spokesperson confirmed the decision today, and the extra hands will help boost weekly production by about 20 percent starting in the third quarter of 2026. The automaker needs this volume to match higher demand for the Model Y in Europe. So the search for fresh talent kicks off in May.

Factory converts temporary workers

Around the same time, the plant will convert roughly 500 temporary workers into permanent employees. These steps push the Grünheide facility closer to its approved limit of 500,000 vehicles a year.

Demand for the electric SUV remains strong across the region, and factory leaders want to keep up with incoming orders. Analysts say this hiring spree cements the automaker’s footprint in the local economy.

Battery manufacturing plans take shape

But the company is running a separate recruitment drive right now. They are looking for several hundred people to work exclusively on battery cell production at the exact same site. These dedicated manufacturing lines will turn on during the first half of 2027. Then the factory expects to produce up to 8 gigawatt-hours of battery cells annually.

Company filings indicate a massive financial commitment, with nearly €1 billion spent on the battery equipment and building space. Building the cells in Germany gives the automaker tighter control over its supply chain. Instead of shipping parts across the globe, the factory can rely on local materials.
