Tesla Plans to Bring Cybertruck to a New Market for a Big Advantage

Tesla wants to expand Cybertruck sales beyond North America. Right now, the electric truck is only available in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Some units have been spotted in other countries, but its size limits global availability.

Tesla is working on adjustments for certain markets. A smaller version could be developed for places like Europe and China. In other areas, the full-size truck might be sold just as it is.

Tesla Eyes Australia

Tesla is considering launching Cybertruck in Australia. Thom Drew, Tesla’s Country Director for Australia and New Zealand, confirmed this. He said the company is “in conversations” to bring the truck to the country.

According to Drew, there is a gap in the market. No other EV matches Cybertruck’s size, range, and capability. He explained (via Chasing Cars):

“The only [product] we’re missing at the moment that we really want here is the Cybertruck, and we are in conversations trying to make that happen. That’s something we are trying to influence. There is still nothing here that is a real workhorse, full EV that has the range and capability that Cybertruck does. We think there is a real gap in the market that still needs to be filled and we would love to be the ones to do it first.”

Australia has embraced EVs, but there are no electric trucks built for tough jobs. Tesla sees an opportunity.

Testing Demand

Tesla wants to measure interest before committing to the Australian market. The company has sent a few Cybertrucks for people to see in person. Drew explained:

“We want it here. Part of the tour was to get fresh eyes onto it, get a true perception of what people think about it and what the potential demand might be…we have a couple more that have just arrived. We are really gunning for feedback, helping us to hopefully bring it to market.”

Tesla is waiting to see if enough people want the truck. If there’s enough demand, they might move forward with sales.

Possible Future Options

If the full-size Cybertruck doesn’t work in Australia, Tesla could explore a smaller version. But unlike Europe or China, Australia has plenty of space, so the standard size might still be a good fit.

Expanding Cybertruck sales outside North America would be a big step for Tesla. Australia could be the first of many new markets.
