Tesla Aims to Produce Over 120,000 Cybertrucks Annually

Tesla has hinted it can now produce over 120,000 Cybertrucks per year. This comes after progress in its 4680 battery cell program, which supports the vehicle’s production.

The update was shared in Tesla’s Q4 2024 Update Letter. Tesla said its in-house 4680 cell manufacturing has reached a run rate that can support more than 2,500 Cybertrucks per week.

Tesla stated,

“Our in-house 4680 cell hit a production rate exceeding 2.5k Cybertrucks/week.”

Based on this, Tesla now has the capacity to make around 120,000 to 130,000 Cybertrucks annually.

This estimate is based on the 4680 facilities’ production rate at the end of Q4 2024.

Producing 120,000 Cybertrucks in a year would put the vehicle among the top-selling pickup trucks in the U.S.

For comparison, the Toyota Tundra sold 159,528 units in 2024, making it the fourth best-selling pickup in the country. The top three are the Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado, and RAM.

However, selling 120,000 Cybertrucks won’t be easy. The Cybertruck is priced higher than Tesla’s other popular models, the Model Y and Model 3.

This could make it harder to attract buyers. Tesla will need to work hard to sell more units, especially since pickup trucks are a competitive market.

The 4680 battery cells are a key part of Tesla’s strategy. These cells are made in-house, which helps Tesla control costs and production.

The company has been working to increase the output of these cells to meet demand for the Cybertruck and other vehicles.

The current production rate shows Tesla is making progress. However, there’s still room for improvement.

If Tesla can maintain or increase this production rate, the Cybertruck could become a significant player in the pickup truck market.

However, it will face strong competition from established brands like Ford, Chevy, and RAM.
