Recent videos from Tesla’s robotaxi service in Austin show the vehicles pulling over for emergency vehicles with a distinctive gold line on the touchscreen. Some in the industry have linked this feature to Tesla’s upcoming Full Self-Driving (FSD) V14 update. They believe this could be an early look at the new software in action.

However, Elon Musk recently confirmed on social media that the official rollout of FSD V14 has been delayed due to a last-minute bug. Therefore, V14 release is now scheduled to start on Monday. Musk said this delay is giving Tesla’s AI team more time to add a few extra features before the update goes to early access testers first. Full public rollout will take several weeks more, possibly extending into December.
FSD V14 is expected to bring big changes like a tenfold increase in neural network parameters, smoother camera input at 48Hz, and new audio detection capabilities to identify emergency sirens. Tesla plans a three-step rollout, starting with version 14.0 to early testers, followed by 14.1 and then 14.2, which Musk says will make the car “feel almost like it is sentient.“
The gold line visible on the robotaxi touchscreens during emergency response is believed by some observers to be part of the FSD V14 interface, but this has not been officially confirmed by Tesla. It might also be a feature from the current software iteration or a test feature. According to Tesla, The official FSD V14 software release is still pending and not yet publicly deployed in robotaxis or other vehicles.
However, Tesla’s current robotaxi program in Austin has already shown strong capabilities in handling complex driving scenarios, with safety drivers still present as monitors. The firm plans to scale the robotaxi program, remove safety monitors by the end of 2025, and expand to cities like Los Angeles and Las Vegas early next year. The enhanced emergency vehicle response is a crucial safety aspect for the unsupervised operation Tesla aims to achieve.
The official FSD V14 rollout begins Monday after final bug fixes, and real-world wide deployment will follow after early testing. The new software is also expected to bring major improvements in neural processing, audio-visual emergency detection, and user feedback during emergency maneuvers.
