Tesla is talking to top electric vehicle makers and executives in India. This is part of its plan to enter the Indian car market.
The news comes after Tesla posted 13 new job openings in Mumbai. The company is reaching out to key players in India’s auto sector, including Tata Motors, a major EV manufacturer. Some think Tesla is looking to hire talent from Tata Motors.
A source said,
“Tesla has started contacting top executives at companies like Tata Motors, which is a big name in India’s EV space.”
Prashanth Menon, a senior Tesla executive, is expected to lead Tesla’s operations in India.
Menon was Tesla’s Director of Operations in India in 2021. When Tesla’s India plans slowed down in 2022, he moved to the Netherlands. He has now returned to India.
Tesla plans to open its first two stores in India. One will be near New Delhi International Airport in the Aerocity area. The other will be in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex shopping district.
The company is also looking for sites to build an EV manufacturing plant. Many believe Tesla will set up a factory in Maharashtra. It already has an office in Pune.
A source said,
“Maharashtra makes sense. Tesla has an office in Pune and many suppliers in the state.”
Tesla’s move into India is a big step in its global expansion. The company plans to focus on both retail and manufacturing, showing a long-term commitment to the Indian market.
