Tesla has begun emailing formal invitations for its long-awaited Cybercab launch event, and the message confirms Thursday, September 3, 2026, as the date the company will finally pull back the curtain on its robotaxi in Austin, Texas, where Tesla runs both its corporate headquarters and Gigafactory Texas.
The email tells recipients they can “experience the future of autonomy.” Each invited attendee can bring one approved companion, but Tesla states that this guest cannot be a content creator. That restriction excludes video creators and social media influencers who often travel to corporate product debuts. Food and refreshments will be provided on site.
Tesla’s earlier sweepstakes paperwork allowed anyone 18 or older to enter, yet the final invitation raises that bar and requires attendees to be at least 21 years old, with staff checking government identification at the door. Recipients must finish their RSVP by August 30 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time to reserve their badges, and Tesla will email travel directions once registration closes.
How Tesla picked its guest list
A share of the invitations came through a public sweepstakes tied to Tesla’s Robotaxi app, where riders who completed trips in Austin through August 23 earned entries, and Tesla drew winning names on August 25. Tesla likewise offered a no-cost entry method for non-riders through traditional mail. Applicants sent a 3-by-5-inch paper card with their name, street address, phone number, email address, and birth date to company headquarters at 1 Tesla Road in Austin, with Tesla accepting one card per stamped envelope.
The Cybercab is an electric two-seat car manufactured without a steering wheel or pedals, constructed for automated travel. Tesla first presented the prototype at its “We, Robot” demonstration in October 2024, setting an expected price under $30,000. Assembly operations at Gigafactory Texas have commenced trial production, and corporate video records released earlier this year showed completed cars navigating factory grounds without a driver. Elon Musk cited long-term factory targets of 2 million vehicles annually once production equipment reaches full volume.
Tesla currently operates automated Model Y sport utility vehicles across the Austin metropolitan area. The September 3 rollout allows Tesla to introduce its dedicated vehicle hardware alongside those existing Model Y services.
