Tesla prepares to release smart summon for the Cybertruck

Tesla announced on Tuesday that it plans to release its autonomous parking feature for the Cybertruck soon. The company posted a video on X featuring the stainless-steel vehicle stopping for a cyclist at an intersection, and the post included a direct message for owners: “Summon for Cybertruck rolling out shortly.”

Soon before this announcement, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed an investigation into the automaker’s earlier parking software. That probe covered over 2.59 million vehicles across the company’s lineup. Then the resolution of the federal inquiry cleared the path for the company to expand the software to its newest electric pickup. Later the automaker shared some new statistics to back up the updated software, stating the latest version registers nearly 15 times fewer automatic emergency braking events and 8 times fewer hard-swerve incidents compared to the older iteration.

How the parking feature operates

The software lets owners use their smartphone app to call their vehicle from a parking spot directly to their location, and no one needs to sit behind the wheel during the process. But drivers must keep the truck in their line of sight at all times and actively watch the app to stop the car if needed. This capability was absent when the company first delivered Full Self-Driving to select early Cybertruck buyers last September, but now the automaker is pushing the completed software package to the wider fleet.

A few independent drivers received early access to the software in late March 2026, and they reported the truck drove through lots and pulled up to them without needing any human intervention. Later this month regular owners can expect to receive the over-the-air software update on their own vehicles. Buyers cannot purchase the software outright anymore, as the company moved to a subscription-only model for its advanced driver assistance packages earlier this year.
