A group of Tesla owners in Northern California has reported getting threatening messages. The messages tell them to get rid of their cars by Wednesday, February 12.
The Lost Coast Outpost first reported the incident. They received a copy of the message from the group behind the threats.
The Message
The message left on the cars said:
“No Nazis in America. Tesla owners trade or sell before Feb 12. After that it is open season.”
Sgt. Heidi Grossman from the Arcata Police Department told SFGate that four Tesla owners in the city called about these threats. The first report came on February 5, and three more followed over the next two days.
Who Is Behind the Threats?
A group called Students Against Nazi Extremism (SANE) has taken responsibility.
According to the Lost Coast Outpost, ten students from Arcata and Seaside in Monterey County left notes on 13 Tesla vehicles.
SANE calls Tesla CEO Elon Musk an
“overt Nazi with a history of fascist, racist, misogynist, and criminal behavior.”
They also threatened to damage Tesla vehicles.
The group’s goal is to create
“enough shame to make it onerous for anyone to buy or operate a Tesla-branded vehicle.”
They plan to start vandalizing Teslas on February 12 in Arcata, Rohnert Park, Seaside, and Hayward.
Police Response
Nick Borges, the police chief of Seaside, said he knows about SANE’s threats. The Seaside Police Department is taking steps to protect a Tesla dealership in the city.
Authorities are warning Tesla drivers and increasing patrols to monitor areas 24/7.
