Tesla enables free Supercharging across GCC amid Iran conflict

Tesla has activated free Supercharging at dozens of stations across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, effective midnight local time on March 17, 2026, as the region grapples with ongoing Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

The official @TeslaCharging account on X announced that free Supercharging would go into effect at midnight local time across multiple GCC locations. The announcement followed a public appeal from UAE-based real estate developer Hussain Sajwani, who urged Elon Musk and Tesla to provide free charging for GCC Tesla owners in light of Iran’s attacks. “I hope Elon and Tesla make all Superchargers temporarily for free in the GCC, including the UAE, given Iran’s unjustified attack on us. I know Tesla has the ethos of helping in tough times,” Sajwani wrote.

The backdrop is a rapidly escalating conflict. Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Gulf states beginning February 28, after the U.S. and Israel initiated strikes on Iranian military sites. Iran also threatened to target “oil, economic and energy infrastructures” in the region.

Free Supercharging locations

Tesla’s free Supercharging is currently enabled at the following stations:

Saudi Arabia

Qatar

UAE – Abu Dhabi

UAE – Dubai

UAE – Other Emirates

This is not the first time Tesla has activated free Supercharging in a conflict or disaster zone. In October 2023, Elon Musk announced “All Tesla Superchargers in Israel are free” following Hamas’s attacks on the country. The policy was kept in place until further notice, with Tesla describing it as standard practice during emergencies.

Earlier in 2026, Tesla also enabled free Supercharging for all stations in Mississippi and Tennessee to assist residents dealing with persistent power outages, with Musk noting that making Supercharging free during tough times is “standard Tesla policy”.

Tesla’s growing GCC footprint

Tesla has been steadily expanding its presence across the Middle East. The company only recently mended a years-long rift with Saudi Arabia, with a major launch event held in Riyadh in April 2025. The UAE has been Tesla’s longest-standing GCC market, with Superchargers operating at major malls, highways, and city landmarks across all seven emirates.

Tesla has not announced an end date for the free Supercharging offer. Owners in the listed locations can take advantage of the benefit immediately, with no action required beyond charging at a listed station.
