Elon Musk says Tesla drivers might soon play video games while Full Self-Driving is running. He put the timeline at about three to six months. The change depends on getting city and state approvals.
Musk explained this after a video showed someone playing Grand Theft Auto in a Cybertruck with Full Self-Driving turned on and asked, “When can I do this tho”. Musk wrote, “probably 3 to 6 months, depending on regulatory approval in your city and state.”
Some Tesla owners already try gaming while using Full Self-Driving. Tesla says drivers should not do this yet. The system is not fully autonomous. Drivers are still responsible for the car and must be ready to take control.
Tesla has focused on improving Full Self-Driving through updates, better data, and new hardware. The company is clear. You must keep your hands on the wheel and pay attention. If you don’t, the car will give sound and visual alerts. If you keep ignoring these warnings, the system shuts off for that drive. These rules appear in the manual, on the Tesla website, and inside the car’s screen prompts.
Elon Musk has often set bold timelines for self-driving features before. Tesla has said for years that fully autonomous vehicles were just around the corner.
Musk thinks Full Self-Driving is strong enough to support in-car gaming while the car is in motion, but only if rules allow it. Tesla’s team keeps working to make sure updates meet safety standards. For now, any new feature like gaming on the move needs to be tested and approved by each local government.
If this update goes live where you live, you could play games on Tesla’s built-in display while the car drives. Musk wants to make rides more fun and productive for owners who use Full Self-Driving. Even if the technology works, each city or state could make its own decision, so the option might show up in some places before others.
Right now, Tesla keeps warning drivers not to lose focus when using Full Self-Driving. For these changes to become official, regulators must agree the system is safe. The rules for using your car screen while Full Self-Driving is on remain strict until then. Tesla says drivers stay in charge no matter how much Full Self-Driving improves. You must always be ready to act if needed.
