A Tesla dealership in Loveland, Colorado, was vandalized early Friday morning. Someone tried to set the building on fire and spray-painted offensive messages on the property and several vehicles.
What Happened?
Police arrived at the dealership near U.S. 34 and U.S. 287 around 7 a.m. and found signs of arson.
The graffiti included the phrase “Nazi cars,” seemingly directed at Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Photos and videos showed Cybertrucks and other Teslas with red spray paint on windshields and broken glass in the lot.
Investigation Underway
Local police are working with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to investigate.
This is the third case of vandalism at this dealership this year. Two previous incidents occurred on January 29 and February 2.
Tesla’s Response
Tesla has not yet commented. The company’s vehicles have multiple cameras and security features such as sentry mode, which have helped identify vandals in past cases, security measures at Tesla dealerships may increase following this attack.
Possible Motives
The messages left on the building suggest a political motive.
Musk has been involved in several political controversies, including his ties to former President Donald Trump and support for Germany’s far-right AfD party.
His recent government project, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has also drawn criticism over concerns about transparency and potential conflicts of interest.
Impact on Tesla and the Community
- Financial Reactions: Investors are watching to see if this affects Tesla’s brand or stock.
- Business Security: Other Tesla locations may strengthen their security.
- Community Response: Local leaders are encouraging discussions on social tensions to prevent further incidents.
A Growing Trend?
Vandalism against Teslas has been reported in multiple locations, including Florida, Oregon, Canada, Germany, and Australia.
In some cases, security footage has led to arrests. Some experts believe politically motivated vandalism could become more common.
Musk’s Stance on Vandalism
In December, Musk responded to a note left on a Tesla in Portland warning of possible vandalism.
He posted on X,
“Anyone who vandalizes a Tesla will have a criminal record. Go ahead, make my day,”
referencing the 1983 film Sudden Impact starring Clint Eastwood.
