Tesla is getting ready to start its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system in South Korea. Here’s what’s happening and what it could mean for drivers and the car market there.
Tesla posted online on November 12, 2025, with a video of a Tesla in Seoul using the FSD Supervised feature.
FSD Supervised uses AI and cameras to see lights, cars, people, and more. The cost for this feature in South Korea is set at 9.04 million won, which is around $6,160.
Interest in Tesla is increasing in South Korea. The Model Y played a big part in this, causing sales to rise. Tesla has nearly 48,000 car sales in the country so far this year and Tesla rank third after BMW and Mercedes-Benz for imported cars in South Korea.
Korean rules create hurdles for FSD
Laws in South Korea do not let people take their hands off the wheel or have cars change lanes by themselves. Tesla’s test video had the driver barely touching the wheel. As a result, FSD Supervised isn’t fully allowed under current rules. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Tesla has not yet held official talks about FSD.
Why U.S.-made Teslas get access first
FSD will first reach Teslas built in the United States. A trade deal lets U.S. cars enter Korea more easily. Most Teslas in Korea come from a factory in China and face more safety tests. Only less than 20% of Teslas sold there are U.S.-made.
Not every local Tesla will get FSD from the start. Cars from the Shanghai factory need more checks to meet Korean regulations. Still, industry experts say that testing the system here could speed up change in government policy for self-driving tech. There’s hope FSD may come to China and Europe next year, and right now the U.S. has FSD tests for robotaxis.
Tesla’s choice to bring FSD Supervised to Korea could boost car tech and press for new laws. But, FSD gaining ground depends on updates in safety, tech, and how the rules might change.
