Hotel Owner Removes Tesla Chargers Over Owner’s Political Stance
A hotel owner in Germany has decided to remove three Tesla Destination chargers from his property due to his disagreement with the political views of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Andreas Eggensberger, the owner of the BioHotel Eggensberger in the German city of Füssen, was previously a supporter of Tesla and its mission to promote sustainability through electric vehicles.
He had even negotiated the installation of three Tesla Destination chargers at his hotel for the use of his guests.
However, Eggensberger’s support for the electric vehicle maker began to wane during the lead-up to the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
He was “aghast” when he saw Musk voicing his support for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, and was particularly disturbed when he learned that Musk had donated $1 million to America PAC, an organization that aimed to encourage people to vote.
In a LinkedIn post, Eggensberger expressed his disappointment with Musk’s political leanings, writing,
“We are setting an example today and dismantling our three Tesla Destination Chargers… We no longer support Elon Musk in any way.”
The hotel owner’s decision has received mixed reactions.
While some future hotel guests have expressed their support for Eggensberger’s stance, others have criticized the move, arguing that it will make his establishment less convenient for electric vehicle drivers.
The incident highlights the growing intersection between politics and the business world, where personal beliefs and corporate practices can sometimes clash.
It remains to be seen how other businesses and individuals will respond to Eggensberger’s actions and the broader implications of this story.
