Tesla has delayed Tesla’s new Full Self-Driving (FSD) Version 14. A sudden problem with the software came up just before it was going to be released. Musk posted the news online.
Musk said the engineering team is taking more time. He explained this will let them add some extra improvements before FSD V14 reaches drivers.
“Last minute bug cropped up with V14. Released is pushed to Monday, but that gives us time to add a few more features.”
Musk stated.
What makes FSD V14 important
FSD V14 is getting attention because Tesla says it’s one of the biggest FSD updates since Version 12. This new version uses a neural network with ten times more parameters than the last version.
Tesla also developed new features for its Robotaxi program in Austin and included them in V14. The software is meant to make Tesla’s self-driving system act more “sentient.” Musk thinks this will let the car make decisions in a way that feels closer to how a person might drive.
Technical changes and driver experience
The update brings key changes quiet a few people have been waiting for. Video processing is better. There’s less image compression, so the car can get a clearer view of its surroundings. V14 is also better at handling tough driving spots, like unmapped roads and tight parking areas.
A big point for many drivers is alerts, called nags, reminding them to keep their hands on the wheel. This update should cut down on these alerts but still keep things safe.
After pushing the release to Monday, Tesla wants to give early access testers the first go. The rollout comes in stages. Two weeks later, FSD version 14.1 will roll out, using early feedback to fix bugs. The last step is 14.2, which Musk says will be the peak of this update group.
They want each group of users to test it before a wider release which helps Tesla spot problems and see how the software works on the road.
Many companies are now working on their own self-driving systems. Tesla still leads in putting advanced driver assist features in customers’ hands. Other car companies sometimes need new hardware for updates. Tesla relies on over-the-air updates, so existing cars can get new features too without spending extra time at the shop.
Despite this minor holdup, Tesla owners and many in the auto industry are watching FSD V14 closely. Tesla is still aiming for true self-driving cars. V14 takes in lessons from real-world tests, and from projects like the company’s Robotaxi program. If this rollout goes as planned, it could be a major step toward a car that outperforms human drivers.
Monday is the new target for the first round of users. Early testers and fans are waiting to try it out and see what Tesla’s latest update can do.
