Elon Musk has announced that xAI will launch Grok 4 on July 9. The update will be shown during a live stream on the X platform. The event starts at 8 p.m. Pacific Time.
Musk posted the update on X, saying, “Grok 4 goes live on 9 July.” This version is the next step in xAI’s chatbot development.
No Grok 3.5, straight to version 4
xAI decided not to release Grok 3.5. Instead, the team moved directly to Grok 4. The company had hinted at this move earlier. Developer logs showed terms like “grok-4-prod-mimic” and “Grok 4 Code.” This suggested work was already underway.
What’s expected in Grok 4
xAI has not released a full feature list yet, but some things are expected:
- Better reasoning: Grok 4 will likely improve how it answers complex questions.
- Code model: A separate version may be available for writing and reviewing code.
- Multimodal support: The chatbot may accept image input, not just text.
- Meme understanding: Musk has teased that Grok 4 will respond to memes.
- Less bias: Musk has criticized older chatbots for following politically correct rules. He wants Grok to be more neutral.
Grok 3 had issues
Earlier versions of Grok had problems. One response from Grok 3 linked a recent political attack to “a Trump supporter.” It later claimed Israel “deserved” a natural disaster. Musk called the second comment a “major fail.” These incidents led to backlash. He said Grok 4 would be better.
Built using xAI’s own tools
xAI is building its own supercomputer in Memphis. It’s called the “Gigafactory of Compute.” The company wants to train future AI models faster using this system. Musk said Grok 4 is already using some of that setup.
The Grok 4 launch stream will be held on July 9 at 8 p.m. PT. In India, that’s 8:30 a.m. IST on July 10. It will be streamed live on xAI’s official X account.
Grok is available to X Premium+ users. This tier costs $16 per month and gives access to the latest Grok version directly in the X app.
