BYD has its U9 Track Edition in the final stretch. This supercar is a new take on the U9 and just showed up in China’s Ministry of Information Technology (MIIT) database. This listing means specs are official and the car is getting ready for sale.
The Track Edition uses four motors, one on each wheel. Total output is 2,977 horsepower. This is more than double what the regular U9 puts out, which is 1,287 horsepower. Most other cars don’t come close. The Lotus Evija makes 1,972 horsepower and the Rimac Nevera offers 1,914 horsepower. Tesla’s Roadster is expected to produce about 1,000 horsepower.
Speed and range
Tesla’s Roadster should hit 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds. If you include the SpaceX package, that time may drop to 1.1 seconds. The U9 Track Edition aims for 2.3 seconds for 0-60mph. Tesla has top speed locked over 250mph. The U9 Track Edition is said to reach about 217mph. If you care about distance, Tesla’s Roadster is ahead at 620 miles. BYD gives an estimate of about 280 miles.
Design points
BYD is building its Track Edition for racing. The car has a carbon fiber roof, big rear wing, rear diffuser, and wide wheels for the track. Buyers can pick extra aerodynamic parts that adjust for better grip.
It weighs 2,480kg, which is 5,467lbs. The car is about 4.99 meters long, 2.03 meters wide, and 1.35 meters tall. Price will land near $330,000. BYD’s wheel-drive tech offers fine control and supports a vertical jump feature, powered by the DiSus suspension.
Tesla’s Roadster is in development. Production should begin late in 2025. There are three motors and all-wheel drive. Battery size is large for longer range. Tesla is working on wireless charging and new driver assist features.
Tech in both cars
BYD gives you an 800-volt system for fast charging. The battery is lithium iron phosphate blade type, charging from 30% to 80% takes ten minutes. Suspension and torque control are built in for grip and handling through quick turns.
Both brands use lightweight materials and fresh designs. BYD aims for peak horsepower and superior control. Tesla is chasing extreme speed and range. These cars are rare, expensive, and full of new tech. The market for electric supercars is growing fast. Many hope these vehicles meet at the track. Which one is quicker? Fans are waiting to find out.
