Tesla just rolled out the upgraded Model Y Performance in the US. This closes out Tesla’s new electric crossover lineup. The performance model is now on sale with better power, more driving range, new features, and a federal tax credit for people who order before September 30, 2025.

The latest Model Y Performance sprints from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. That’s faster than the old model, which did it in 3.5 seconds. Driving range is now estimated at 308 miles by the EPA, up from 277 miles. Top speed is rated at 155 mph, keeping it at the top for Tesla SUVs.

Price and federal tax credit

Base price is set at $57,490, before extra options. Buyers who reserve theirs now get the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit, if their order goes in by September 30, 2025. This drops the price down to $49,990 before options for those who qualify. Tax credits end without a phase-out, so this is the last chance for savings with this model.

Special financing perk

Tesla’s VP of IT/AI-Infra, Apps, Infosec, and Vehicle Service Operations, Raj Jegannathan, posted on social media that buyers placing orders now can wait until closer to actual delivery date before choosing financing.

This gives a bit more leeway for people who want the tax credit but aren’t ready to lock in financing until the car is set for delivery.

Exterior redesign

Tesla gave the Model Y Performance a sharper look and more functional upgrades:

  • Front and rear bumpers have new, sportier shapes.
  • Carbon fiber rear spoiler adds downforce at speed.
  • Wheels are larger, with 21-inch Arachnid style and staggered sizing to add grip and stability.
  • Red brake calipers highlight the sport-tuned brakes.
  • “Performance” badges set it apart from other Model Y variants.

These changes make the SUV stand out and help with stability and handling when driving fast.

Interior updates

Inside, the Model Y Performance gets a full upgrade for both comfort and tech:

Seating and Comfort

  • The front sport seats are heated and ventilated, with bigger bolsters and better support.
  • Rear seats have heat, power recline, and longer cushions for comfort on trips.
  • Glass is acoustic, making the ride quieter inside.

Tech features

  • The 16-inch main screen is sharper and clearer, making it easy to see info.
  • Back seat passengers get access to an 8-inch touchscreen for entertainment and climate.
  • The sound system includes 15 speakers with advanced sound tech.
  • Carbon fiber and high-end materials are used around the dashboard.

Driving quality

The suspension system uses adaptive dampers with electronic controls. Drivers can pick custom driving settings, including the quick “Insane” acceleration. The car sends more power to the rear wheels for better feel and control. Updated springs, anti-roll bars, and bushings finish off the handling tweaks.

Battery and charging

Tesla put in higher-density battery cells for better range and quicker charging. Tesla doesn’t share exact battery sizes but confirms these allow the increased mileage without adding weight.

Tesla expects the refreshed Model Y Performance to help boost Q4 US deliveries. The updated performance model completes the entire new Model Y lineup in the US. First customer deliveries start December 2025, and production is at Tesla’s US factories.

The $7,500 federal EV tax credit runs until September 30, 2025. There is no phase-out, after that day, it’s gone. IRS guidance says people can get the credit if they have a signed purchase contract and make payment by the deadline, even if the car arrives later. Tesla is timing this launch so buyers can lock in on tax savings before the program ends.

With improved features, tax credit eligibility, and flexible financing, the Model Y Performance is set to see high demand leading up to the cutoff date.
